What this site measures
This site runs its own analytics. Nothing is sent to Google Analytics, Meta, or any third-party advertising network.
No cookies
No cookies are set and nothing is written to your browser's storage. That is why there is no cookie banner.
What is recorded
- The page you viewed and the time.
- The site that referred you, for example a search engine or a social network. The specific search term is not available to us.
- Whether a link to YouTube was clicked.
- A one-way hash combining your IP address, your browser's user agent, a daily rotating value and a secret key. Your IP address itself is never written to disk. The hash changes every day, so visits cannot be connected across days and no individual can be identified from it.
What is not recorded
- Your IP address in raw form.
- Your name, email address, or any account information.
- Any identifier that follows you to other websites.
- Any profile of you across visits.
Why
The only reason this data exists is to tell us which explanations people find useful and where they found us. Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Embedded video
Where a YouTube video is embedded, it uses youtube-nocookie.com, which does not set tracking cookies until you press play. Once you press play or follow a link to YouTube, Google's own privacy policy applies and we have no control over it.
Fonts
Typefaces are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google to download them. If you would prefer this not to happen, the fonts can be hosted locally instead.
