Frequently asked
The short version
How long is a Watt & Why episode?
Long-form episodes run about 5 minutes. One question per episode, answered properly, with no padding.
How often do new episodes come out?
A new episode every week on YouTube.
Who are these videos for?
Anyone curious. The explanations are clear enough for a curious twelve-year-old and sharp enough for adults who already know the basics.
How are the facts checked?
Every claim checked against at least two independent sources. Where scientists genuinely disagree, the episode says so instead of picking a tidy answer.
Is Innovative.land free?
Yes. Watching the episodes, reading the written answers and taking the quizzes are all free. An account is only needed if you want your scores saved and your name on the leaderboard.
What is the difference between Innovative.land and Watt & Why?
Innovative.land is the learning platform. Watt & Why is the animated show it is built around. The episodes live on YouTube; the written answers, quizzes, courses and leaderboard live here.
Do I need an account to take a quiz?
No. Any quiz can be taken without signing up. An account only adds saved scores, levels, badges and a place on the monthly leaderboard.
How do the quizzes work?
Ten multiple-choice questions on one episode, 10 minutes on the clock, pass mark 70%. You see the right answer and the reason after you submit. Retakes are allowed and your best score counts.
How do points, levels and badges work?
Every quiz you pass earns points equal to your best percentage on it. Points add up to twenty levels, each with a badge that sits beside your name on the leaderboard. Passing first time earns a gold star, passing after a retake a silver one.
How does the leaderboard work?
It resets every month. Your points for the month are your best score on each quiz you took that month, added together, so retaking a quiz cannot push one quiz above 100. Only accounts with a confirmed email appear on it.
How do I create an account, sign in, or reset my password?
Create one at /register with an email and a password of at least 10 characters; a confirmation email follows. Sign in at /login. Forgotten passwords are reset from /forgot with a one-hour link. Your profile at /profile lets you change your name, avatar, email and password, or delete the account and everything stored about you.
Can I get an email when a new episode comes out?
Yes. Enter your address at /notify, confirm it from the email you receive, and you get one email per full episode, never for Shorts and never a newsletter. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
What are courses?
A course is a run of episodes in the order that makes sense, built from a YouTube playlist, with its quizzes attached. Watching needs no account; with one you can tick off lessons and track progress.
Who is Watt?
A small silent robot with one job: asking the question you are already thinking. Say the channel name out loud and the joke lands.
How do I contact you?
Through the contact form at /contact for questions, corrections, collaborations or press, or in the comments on any episode on YouTube.
